How to tape for a posture correction

Do you have a rounded posture and are you looking for a way to sit or stand more upright? This simple posture correction taping method is an effective way to support a curved upper back and encourage a straighter position.

A hunched upper back (kyphosis) can develop for a variety of reasons. Spending long hours in a poor sitting position at a desk or in front of a computer, an incorrectly adjusted workstation, weak back muscles, or overtraining the chest muscles that pull the shoulders forward are all common causes. By applying a strip of tape between the shoulder blades, you can help correct this posture. Once applied, the tape acts as a gentle reminder to keep your shoulders drawn back. It is best to ask someone for help to make sure the tape is applied correctly.

Self-taping your shoulder blades for posture correction

Tips to ensure your upper back posture taping treatment is effective:

Is the cause of the discomfort or pain clear?
Read the instructions carefully before you begin taping.
Choose the tape colour you prefer.
Do not apply stretch at the beginning and end of the tape.
Rub the tape well to improve adhesion.
Check for any contraindications before taping.
On average, the tape will stay in place for three to five days.
You can shower while wearing the tape.
Removing the tape is easier with a little oil.

Preparation for taping the shoulder blades for posture correction

Tape

Form: I-strip
Number of strips: 1 strip of approximately 25–30 cm
Technique: muscle technique, with the shoulder blades first pulled back before placing the anchors on them

Measuring and cutting the tape

Step

Cut one strip of tape, approximately 30 cm long, and round off the ends to improve adhesion. Choose the tape colour you prefer. The colour shown here is only an example.

Applying CureTape between the shoulder blades for posture correction

Step

Tear the backing paper about 7 cm from both ends.
Pull the shoulder blades back (retraction), remove the release paper from the middle section and apply the tape without stretch across the shoulder blades.
Move your shoulders forward so the centre of the tape adheres firmly to the skin.
You will feel the tape act as a reminder to keep your upper back straight.
Rub the tape firmly to ensure better adhesion.
