Everything About CureTape®

What is CureTape?

CureTape is a medical-grade, elastic kinesiology tape designed to support the body’s natural recovery process without restricting movement. It is gentle on the skin, completely latex-free and features a hypoallergenic acrylic adhesive layer. The tape encourages natural healing without the use of medication.

Recognisable by its bright colours and unique application techniques, CureTape has become a familiar sight in physiotherapy, sports medicine and skin therapy. It is also widely used by individuals who wish to prevent injuries, reduce pain or support muscles and joints during sport or daily activity.

Where is CureTape made?

CureTape is produced in a certified ISO 13485 / 9001 facility in South Korea. Every roll meets the strict standards of the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and is classified as a Class I medical device. Quality is a constant focus. Independent inspections and rigorous testing ensure that every product meets the highest standards, while the positive experiences of therapists and users around the world confirm the brand’s reliability.

What is the history of kinesiology taping and CureTape?

The concept of kinesiology taping originated in the 1970s, when Japanese chiropractor Dr Kenzo Kase sought a more dynamic alternative to traditional rigid sports tape. His invention allowed patients to move freely without pain, encouraging faster recovery by promoting movement rather than immobilisation.

Around the year 2000, the Dutch company FysioTape introduced the technique to Europe and developed it further into what became known as the Medical Taping Concept. To accompany this vision, the company created its own brand of tape. In 2003, CureTape was launched, developed in collaboration with experienced therapists and produced in South Korea under strict ISO certification.

The method gained global attention when athletes wearing colourful tape appeared during the Olympic Games in 2004 and 2008. From that moment, kinesiology taping became widely recognised not only by therapists but also by athletes and everyday users. Today it is considered one of the most commonly used complementary techniques for injury treatment, pain management, lymphatic drainage and posture correction.

What is the current state of science on kinesiology tape?

Because kinesiology taping can be used for many different purposes, gathering clear and consistent scientific evidence can be challenging. However, an increasing number of studies show that it can be beneficial in certain situations, especially for pain reduction, lymphatic drainage and postural awareness.

Much of the support for kinesiology taping comes from clinical experience and the positive feedback of therapists, patients and athletes who observe improvements in comfort and mobility. Research articles have been appearing in the PubMed medical database since 1974, with a sharp increase in publications from 2012 onwards and peaks in 2020 and 2024.

The effectiveness of kinesiology tape is best evaluated through systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomised controlled trials (RCTs). In these studies, researchers collect all reliable evidence on a particular application, assess the quality of each individual study and combine the results into one overall conclusion.

Randomised controlled trials, often referred to as RCTs, are considered high-quality studies designed to gather scientific information about a specific treatment. Participants are randomly assigned to either a treatment group or a placebo group, which allows researchers to measure the true effect of kinesiology tape in a controlled setting.

As the number of studies on kinesiology taping has increased over the past decade, more systematic reviews and meta-analyses have become available. Many of these studies indicate positive outcomes for certain applications. Combined with the extensive practical experience of therapists and users in a wide range of settings, elastic taping has proven to be an indispensable and valuable method in modern practice.
