Who uses CureTape®?

Elastic taping was first developed in the 1970s by Japanese chiropractor Dr Kenzo Kase. His goal was to create a tool that could support therapists during their patients’ rehabilitation process. Over time, CureTape has grown into one of the leading brands in the world of kinesiology taping.

Today, CureTape is not only used by physiotherapists, sports massage therapists and other healthcare professionals, but also by athletes and private users who apply the tape themselves to treat or prevent minor injuries and discomfort.

Which professionals work with CureTape?

To use CureTape correctly, therapists follow specialised training courses that teach them the principles, techniques and practical applications of kinesiology taping. CureTape is always applied as part of a professional treatment plan.

Physiotherapists
Within physiotherapy practices, CureTape has become a standard treatment aid, and approximately 75 percent of clinics now use this taping method. Physiotherapists have detailed anatomical knowledge and understand how the body responds to the gentle stimuli that the tape provides. When applied correctly, the effects can often be felt immediately during treatment.

Sports massage therapists
Sports massage therapists work closely with athletes, both in clinics and at sports clubs. CureTape is frequently applied after a massage or as a preventive measure before training or competition. Common examples include taping the ankle to prevent sprains or providing extra stability around the knee, both practical and proven applications that many professionals rely on.

Oedema and skin therapists
These specialists focus on lymphatic and skin-related conditions. By applying the tape in a particular way, lymphatic drainage is stimulated and recovery processes are supported. CureTape is often used after surgery, during scar therapy or to reduce swelling and oedema.

Posture therapists
CureTape can help to influence or correct posture and movement. By gently stimulating the skin, the tape encourages the body to adopt a more natural and balanced position.

Podiatrists and podotherapists
These professionals use CureTape to influence foot alignment and to activate or relax certain muscle groups. Proper taping can help improve balance and optimise the body’s movement chain.

Speech and voice therapists
A lesser-known but fascinating application is the use of CureTape within speech therapy. By applying tape to the face or neck, therapists can positively influence the voice, speech patterns or even saliva flow.

(General) practitioners
Kinesiology tape is also used in general medical practices, for instance to treat acute injuries, twisted ankles, bruising or to reduce pain and tension.

What can kinesiology tape do for you as an athlete or patient?

Internal research shows that around 80 percent of individual users first learned taping techniques from a professional. A therapist can teach you how to apply the tape correctly for your specific needs, making CureTape suitable not only for recovery but also for injury prevention. Common self-taping areas include the back, knees and ankles.

However, it is important not to experiment on your own. The direction and amount of tension used when applying the tape are crucial for achieving the desired effect. Incorrect use may lead to skin irritation or reduced effectiveness.

If you would like to try taping yourself, we have compiled more than 30 step-by-step self-taping guides that are safe and easy to follow.
